Once you have selected you home and signed up for the tenancy you will need to get things working in the home.
You will need ELECTRICITY connected. We have only one supplier here at the moment. They are Ergon Energy. Their contact number is 131046 for connections. They will require access to the property to do a safety check prior to connecting the power for you so you will need to organise for keys to be left in a convenient place at the home for them.
Ergon will require a security deposit which is currently $80.
All this can be done over the phone with the deposit being billed to you on your first account which will arrive very shortly after connection is made.
GAS may be connected to the property. If you want to have gas connected locally you will need to contact Western Downs Regional Council on 0746721100.
They will require a security deposit upon connection which is currently $130 if the gas has been disconnected by the previous person.
TELEPHONE lines are usually connected to the property however we have found recently that since the advent of mobile phones some tenants are not connecting the land lines. In this case the lines may be reallocated by the service provider to another location and a cost is incurred to re allocate the line to the property. This is at an additional cost imposed by the service provider charged to the tenant.
WATER is connected to the home.
Payment for water is dependant upon a few things such as the metering and the appliances in the home.
If a property is separately metered and the property is fitted with all the required water saving devices required for new homes then the tenant will be charged for the total consumption of water in the property.
If the home is not fitted with water saving devices and is separately metered then the owner must pay for the amount of water allocated at the lowest price by Western Downs Regional Council and the tenant is to pay for any usage above that allocation at the rate charged by Western Downs Regional Council.
If the home is not separately metered then the tenant cannot be charged for water usage unless prior arrangements are made for such charges.
MAIL is important also. You should have notified the Post Office of your change of address so that any mail for you will be delivered to your new home without you having to try to track down mail that you may have been expecting.
GARBAGE Your wheelie bin will be emptied weekly by the Western Downs Regional Council. You should call them on 07 46721100 and ask what day you need to put out your bin for collection. If you do not have a wheelie bin then contact First National Dalby to get a new one delivered. Sometimes empty homes have their bins borrowed and not returned. They can be replaced without a lot of difficulty.
